Down at Max’s – stories about the legendary NYC nightclub, Max’s Kansas City, as told by music curator, Peter Crowley
Peter Crowley, the music curator of Max’s Kansas City, tells it like it is in his first volume of stories. A teenage runaway from Vermont who has seen it all from the West Village in the 1960s to the colour sound of California, and managing and booking bands during the punk explosion of the 1970s. Like a beer for a breakfast, a reflection on what it was really like to be there (you know where). From someone who was.

My name is Peter Crowley, a rather common name for a not so ordinary boy. I am 81 years old and have never lived in Crowley Castle, though the castle has a place in my story. I’ve been the dishwasher and the CEO; the laborer and the entrepreneur. I’ve lived in Vermont, NYC, Frisco, Tijuana, L.A., and London. Now I live alone, though that’s not always been the case. My story, though perhaps unbelievable, is mostly true. The most fantastic bits are likely to be factual; the mundane, illusionary. Hope you enjoy reading my tales of woe and glory half as much as I loved living them, so here we go …
